Our Story Starts With Family

Robert J. Bates began providing custom manufactured building components to the commercial construction industry as a manufacturer’s sales representative in 1963, with the help of his wife and office manager Margaret. Starting with a few industry-leading firms, the Bates family offered quality products with reliable service to design and construction professionals in the Carolinas.

Fifteen years later, the Bates’ sons Tom and John joined the company and continued to expand the offerings and territory.  Now in the company’s third generation, we are stronger than ever.

Today, our growing company continues to bring innovative products to the industry and to broaden the Robert Bates Company product line. Founded on the core commitments to excellent customer service, ethical business practices, and superior product knowledge, Robert Bates Company has become a reliable source for architectural metal products across the Southeast.
